The Montana Master Hunter Program is an advanced hunter education program for hunters who understand that hunting is a lifelong pursuit and want to continue to add to their knowledge and skills.

Application Process

Interested applicants must complete an application online that is screened for each applicants’ ability to meet the basic qualifications.  A selection committee reviews all applications.

In 2024 classes will be held in Bozeman, Missoula, and Kalispell over two consecutive 3-day weekends. Participants are required to participate in all classes and a two-day weekend rendezvous in June is also required for shooting qualifications, field exercises, and the final exam.

The cost of the program is $675 per participant.  Each class is limited to 30 hunters.

Course fees include: 1.5 days shooting and ballistics instruction, in-person class expenses, online programming, and the final rendezvous weekend. These fees help to cover the direct program costs –about 18% of the total cost per person. The course is valued at more than $3,200 per person.

Discounts: Couples and families are eligible for discounts. If you apply with a partner or family member, the second person will receive a 26% discount if both are accepted into the program ($175 off the course fee).

Scholarships: Need-based Scholarships are available for all applicants. Applicants must complete two applications – the program application and the scholarship application. See below for instructions.

Last night, I left Jack Creek with a full heart. I wanted to thank and commend One Montana for organizing such a positive experience and wonderful course. Everyone you recruited, from the presenters to the participants, was exceptional. Their commitment to the program speaks volumes to the vision you have created for the state’s sportsmen and landowning communities, and to your leadership. I am very proud to have taken part and so look forward to helping promote the program in any way I am able!
